He questioned why it was always Amanah that was blamed for breaking Malay unity when PKR and PPBM were also against PAS and Umno.
“Why is it that when Amanah wants to go against Umno and PAS, it is known as dividing the Malays?
“PKR and PPBM are also against Umno and PAS. Are they also complicit in dividing the Malays?” he asked in a statement here today.
Hadi was reported by Mingguan Malaysia to have accused Amanah of dividing the Muslims and splitting the Malay votes to help Umno win the 14th general election.
Hadi added that if Amanah wanted to fight Umno why would it interfere by contesting in PAS seats that had traditionally seen a tussle between PAS and Umno.
He was referring to plans by Amanah to stand in 27 parliamentary seats, which were mostly contested by PAS. PAS was said to be interested in contesting 130 seats in the upcoming election.
Mohamad said Amanah, along with Pakatan Harapan, had a larger agenda to reform institutions and to form a well-managed government.
“Therefore, we will strive to fight Umno-BN and any other allies in the upcoming election,” he said.
Mohamad said Amanah did not have any cooperation with PAS and his party will contest in any seat agreed by PH.
“When PAS announced it would contest in Permatang Pauh, a seat held by PKR, why was it not deemed as splitting the Malays?”
Hadi was reported in February to have said that PAS would contest the Permatang Pauh seat in the coming election, claiming that the seat had been PAS’ since 1978.
The seat is currently held by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who captured the seat through a by-election in May 2015 after its incumbent and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim lost his eligibility as MP following his imprisonment on a sodomy charge.
PAS had contested the Permatang Pauh seat since 1969 before handing it over to PKR to contest in 1999. Anwar had held the seat since 1982 while he was in Umno.
Amanah was formed in 2015, after some PAS leaders who wanted the Islamist party to keep working with DAP and PKR under the Pakatan Rakyat coalition were eliminated from its leadership elections.
PAS will seek to form federal govt with another party, says Hadi
