GEORGE TOWN: A baby girl who was barely two months when she died in Bukit Mertajam yesterday was said to have been abused extensively, according to police.

Nurul Ain Umairah, who was born on Dec 30, was found to have many bruises on her body, including abrasions on her private parts.

A shocking post-mortem report revealed by the police showed Nurul could have died as a result of being thrown on the floor, hurled on a wall, a door or subjected to blows from blunt objects.

Scratch marks and lacerations were also found throughout her body. Pathologists have indicated a likelihood of Nurul having been pinched as well.

The report also showed Nurul had bite marks on both of her arms. At the time of writing, it was not revealed if the bite marks were caused by a human or an animal.

Many bones in her body were also broken. Her right arm and left femur (thigh bone) were broken, including parts of her left ribcage.

The official cause of death was listed as intracranial haemorhage (bleeding in the brain) secondary to blunt trauma.

Police investigators revealed on Wednesday, Nurul was rushed to the clinic by the parents, after she refused to drink any milk.

A paediatrician then revealed Nurul had a low heart rate and told them to admit her to a hospital.

On the way to a hospital, the parents claimed Nurul went lifeless. They rushed back to the earlier paediatrician. The doctor declared Nurul dead.

Nurul was then brought to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for an x-ray and for the post-mortem to be carried out.

Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said Nurul’s parents, both aged 22, were remanded for a week beginning today.

They will be investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for the abuse and neglect of a child, which carries a fine not exceeding RM20,000 and a maximum jail of 10 years or both.
