SINGAPORE:
Travellers from Malaysia have been reminded not to bring “bak kwa” or Chinese sweet meat jerky into Singapore ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations.

According to the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Malaysia has not been approved for the import of meat products to the republic.

Since Feb 8, ICA officers at the Woodlands checkpoint have encountered four cases of travellers concealing bak kwa in cookie and snack packaging.

The packets of bak kwa were disposed of.

There are currently 21 countries which have been approved for the import of pork and pork products to Singapore, including Canada, the Netherlands and the US.

The list of approved countries is available on the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore website, www.ava.gov.sg, or the SG TravelKaki App.
