Kota Kinabalu city police identified the man as Kaidal Muksin, 29, confirmed to have been the mastermind in 17 burglary cases in the Sabah districts of Penampang, Papar and Kota Kinabalu.
“Fifteen of the cases were burglaries while the remaining two were robberies,” city police chief ACP M Chandra told reporters today.
“Of the 15 cases, 10 were confirmed, as the suspect’s fingerprints matched those found on location.
“The remaining five cases were confirmed after the suspect was positively identified in CCTV footage obtained from the crime scenes.”
Chandra said the suspect, who came from Kampung Delima, was confirmed to have been involved in the two latest robberies based on the testimony of an accomplice.

He is believed to have had four accomplices: one serving time, another being sought by police and two others who are in custody.
“He is believed to have been active in crime since 2009 and was a drug user.
“The goods stolen in all the 17 cases were estimated to be worth RM299,150.”
Yesterday, police shot dead Kaidal, who had fired three rounds at them following a high-speed chase near here.
When contacted by FMT, deputy Sabah police commissioner Razarudin Husain said they believed the gun was self-made and not manufactured by established gunmakers overseas.
He added that the gun was believed to have come from a neighbouring country and could have been used in other crimes in Sabah and elsewhere.
