BUTTERWORTH:
The Indonesian consulate here did not receive any report of abuse from domestic worker Adelina Lisao, prior to her death yesterday, the Indonesian consul for consular affairs Neni Kurniati said today.

Kurniati also said that Adelina, 26, had been working with her current employer in Bukit Mertajam since December 2014, based on the data from her passport.

“There were no complaints from Adelina of her being abused by her employer,” Kurniati said when met at the Seberang Jaya Hospital mortuary here today.

Adelina, who was allegedly abused by her employers, died from her injuries at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital yesterday.

The 26-year-old had been working at the semi-detached house in Taman Kota Permai here.

She was spotted by a concerned neighbour with wounds on her hands and legs. She had also been spotted sleeping next to a Rottweiler for two months.

Kurniati said the consulate was still in the midst of tracing Adelina’s family in Indonesia, as the latter’s passport had indicated a different address.

Kurniati said Adelina hailed from Nusa Tenggara Timur in east Indonesia, and not Medan as was previously reported.

“We will definitely bring her body back to her family in Indonesia,” she said.

However, as to when they would be able to send Adelina’s body back would depend on when the post-mortem could be completed.

“We have yet to see the condition of the victim. We have been coordinating with the Central Seberang Perai police since yesterday.

“We are still waiting for official updates from the police and the hospital,” she said.

Kurniati said Adelina had a valid passport and the consulate was checking if she had a valid permit to work in Malaysia.

It was reported that on Saturday, Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim’s office had paid a visit to Adelina at her employer’s home.

Sim’s aides had lodged a police report on the alleged abuse, after the employers refused to cooperate.

Adelina was subsequently taken to the police station by her employers, and later admitted to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.

Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the case would be investigated for murder.

He said, initially, the case was classified under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

Two siblings, aged 36 and 39, have been detained.
