Its central committee member S Arutchelvan said they must declare their assets, not play “dirty politics” and open a service centre in the constituency in which they will
be contesting.
“We are always open to receiving them if they meet these requirements,” he said.
“We will not accept people who cannot fulfil these conditions as our intention is to help the public,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall here today.
He said PSM particularly encouraged activists to run under the party’s banner.
The party had earlier urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) to accept its decision to contest in the polls using its own logo and understand the context in which it had used other parties’ logos in previous elections.
Arutchelvan said PSM had to “borrow” other parties’ logos in the general elections of 1999, 2004 and 2008 as the government had then not approved its registration.
He also said PSM would contest in 17 seats in GE14 which is due by August.
They comprise the five parliamentary seats of Cameron Highlands (with Suresh Kumar as candidate), Subang (A Sivarajan), Batu Gajah (candidate named only as Segar), Hulu Langat (S Arutchelvan) and Sungai Siput (incumbent Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj).
The twelve other seats, all at state assembly level, are Jelapang (M Saraswati), Semenyih (Nik Aziz Afiq), Bukit Lanjan (V Selvam), Jelai (Mohd Nor Ayat), Port Klang (candidate named only as Shan), Tronoh (Chin Kwai Heng), Buntong (R Mohanarani), Seri Muda (Abdul Razak Ismail), Kota Lama (Khairul Nizam), Menglembu (Chin Kwai Leong), Kota Damansara (Nasir Hashim) and Malim Nawar (K Bawani).
