KOTA KINABALU: Parti Cinta Sabah president Wilfred Bumburing today lodged a police report over an article published in an online portal which he alleged was false and written with ill-intent.

Bumburing said he wanted the police to investigate the person responsible for the article and also the owner of the web portal.

In the article, Bumburing was alleged to have received RM1 million from Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in the last general election in May 2013.

The same article also alleged that Bumburing received funding from Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie Apdal.

“The contents in the article are totally false and can raise doubts among the public, especially as it questions my integrity as a Sabah state assemblyman and as president of a political party,” he told FMT.

He added that he has also written to the Sabah office of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the web portal that carried the article in question.

“Upon examining the website containing the article, I found out that there is no office address, no name stated as to who owns the portal, nor of the person who wrote the article.

“My intention to lodge this police report is to clear my name and to call for an immediate investigation by the police.

“They must find out every individual responsible for making the false statements, including the owner of the website, and bring them to justice, in accordance with existing laws and the appropriate legal provisions.”

According to Bumburing, the accusations are nothing more than an attempt to divert the people’s attention with regard to the leaders in Gabungan Sabah.

This accusation, he said, was made on the basis of his association with Razaleigh, who is the founder and president of an NGO, Angkatan Amanah Merdeka Malaysia, of which Bumburing is one of the deputy presidents.

“This NGO was formed in July 2011 when I was still in BN and an MP for Tuaran.

“It is a national movement with the aim of restoring the spirit of the formation of Malaysia in 1963 and in which the core mission was based on the Merdeka speech by the first Malaysian prime minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman,” he said.

Bumburing said the membership and leadership composition of the NGO comprised people from various ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds, regardless of their political party affiliation.

Bumburing was invited to be part of the NGO movement, launched in Sabah prior to GE13.

Other than Razaleigh as the president and Bumburing as one of the deputy presidents, the other deputy presidents include former information minister Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, former MCA president Ong Tee Keat, former MIC deputy president S Subramaniam, former deputy education minister the late Bujang Ulis, and former Sarawak deputy chief minister and former Batang Lupar MP Daniel Tajem.

Among the vice-presidents was former Sarawak assistant minister and State Reform Party founding president, the late Dr Patau Rubis.

The article entitled “Wilfred Bumburing PCS pernah terima wang RM1 juta daripada Ku Li” was published on Jan 26.

It was published following Bumburing’s speech during PCS’ annual general meeting, held on Jan 22, where he said PCS would only work with “genuine” opposition and alleged that Gabungan Sabah is a BN-friendly opposition.

Thereafter, Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Jeffrey Kitingan, whose party is one of four members of Gabungan Sabah, said as an elected representative, it was normal to be civilised to one another, including BN leaders.

However, he said it does not mean Gabungan Sabah leaders are BN-friendly, nor would they help BN win the election.

Nevertheless, Bumburing said the fact that the portal had stood up for Jeffrey and Gabungan Sabah, showed they are just two sides of the same coin.

“The article aimed to defend Gabungan Sabah and attack me.

“So, I am more convinced now that Gabungan Sabah really is BN-friendly. They help each other cover their backs,” he alleged.

Besides STAR, the other members in Gabungan Sabah are Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS) and Harapan Rakyat.
