He was referring to Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who said on Sunday that the special fund had been allocated to the Federal Territory Foundation for Indian buyers who needed a loan to buy Rumawip (Federal Territory Affordable Homes) units.
“The Indians have a quota for programmes such as Rumawip and PPR,” Tengku Adnan said, using the initials for the People’s Housing Project.
However, Waytha said checks on the foundation’s website showed no such scheme.
Likewise, there was no mention of assistance for the Indian community through the foundation on the Rumawip website.
“Even if there is truth to such an allocation being made, why after almost five years since Rumawip was launched, is it only made public now?
“There are thousands of M40 and B40 Indians in the KL vicinity who have not heard of such a scheme,” he said in a statement.
Asking if Tengku Adnan’s claim was merely a political gimmick to “hoodwink” the Indian community ahead of the 14th general election, Waytha added that the minister was now realising that Indian support for the government was “almost lost”.
