Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said this arrangement would be enjoyed for 10 years by all Malaysian football teams competing in the Malaysian League.
According to Tunku Ismail, who is also Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) chairman, the broadcasting rights were the result of a (10-year) joint-venture signed between FMLLP and iflix.
“Any money from broadcast rights will be distributed to all teams competing in the country as well as help us to restructure the country’s football industry,” he said.
“As I have said earlier, broadcast rights are important because if we look at the national football industry we have problems over finance and professionalism and this collaboration with iflix is just a beginning.
“We will have more cooperation arrangements in helping to improve the quality of football,” he told reporters after the signing of the FMLLP cooperation with iflix here today.
According to Tunku Ismail, the cooperation also opened up avenues for FAM and FMLLP to fight corruption and to establish integrity among local football industry players.
He added that players would also work harder to attract more investors into their teams so that the teams had financial stability and did not have to depend on money from the government.
“With the guidance of FAM and FMLLP, we will ensure they use the money they earn, to improve their own team especially on infrastructure-related matters,” said Tunku Ismail.
