KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah police are tracking down those responsible for spreading a viral message on social media that claimed the bodies of two children with their heads and limbs cut off and organs removed had been found in a village in northern Kudat.

State Police Commissioner Ramli Din said the message had gone viral on Facebook and WhatsApp and he advised the public not to share it.

The message claimed that the bodies of both children were found in a garbage bag dumped in a swamp near Kampung Longgom.

It went on to question whether the bodies were those of children abducted from other areas and brought to the village.

“The information contained in that message is completely false,” Ramli said, adding that the message only served to cause alarm among the public.

He said police were investigating the matter under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for circulating a rumour aimed at causing fear as well as under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
