Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the move taken by certain quarters in trying to become the “third force” in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14) would only ruin the democratic process.
“Whether or not voters are voting for the existing government, we have to see it on polling day. It is their right. But, democracy must be exercised,” he said when opening the Bagan Datuk Ponggal Fiesta at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hutan Melintang near here today.
He also said rather than spoiling votes, it was better to give the votes to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates so that the ruling party could continue serving the people, regardless of their race and religion.
The #SpoiltVote, #UndiRosak and #ProtesPRU campaign slogans, which have gone viral and are trending over social media, calls for young voters to deliberately spoil their ballots at the GE14 on the grounds that there is no difference between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan.
Meanwhile, Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, called on the Indian community in the constituency to give their full support to BN so that more development projects specifically for the community, could be implemented.
“I have obtained the allocation to build a Hindu temple on a piece of government-owned land here. Although religion is an individual right, we will still help.
“We have also helped the Tamil schools. No need to send me an application letter, I will send aid to these schools,” he said.
Furthermore, he said, the crematorium built in Hutan Melintang recently was also for the use of all in the Indian community, regardless of their political beliefs.
