He said a lot of voters may be disillusioned.
“But BN voters want to vote for the government. They will definitely come out to vote.
“Those who do not want to come out to vote are opposition supporters,” he told reporters after attending a talk with local artistes at the National Film Development Corporation here.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) has previously said the movement to spoil votes and boycott GE14 among some disgruntled voters would only benefit Barisan Nasional.
It was previously reported that youths who are disenchanted by political developments in the country intend to sit out GE14.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is currently leading the opposition PH coalition.
PH’s choice in choosing Mahathir as prime ministerial candidate for GE14 has apparently led to divisions among opposition supporters.
This is because some see the former PM as the cause of institutional problems that still affect the country.
However, Rahman, who is also BN strategic communications director, said the government wanted voters to go out and vote. They need to use this opportunity to decide the next government, he added.
“But if they do not want to vote, that is their right.
“I don’t like it. I want them to come out and vote for BN, but if they don’t want to vote, we cannot drag them out of their beds.”
Rahman was also asked about Mahathir’s claim that graduates and educated youths were forced to be nasi lemak sellers or Uber drivers due to unemployment. He said: “I don’t want to reply to a melodramatic 92-year-old.”
On Jan 17, Mahathir had said graduates were resorting to such jobs to earn a living.
He said this should be a cause of embarrassment.
“We cannot be proud that our graduates drive Uber or sell nasi lemak.
“Instead, we must realise that despite the high level of training and knowledge they have received, they are forced to do jobs which have nothing to do with that training or knowledge,” he said.
