The PH chairman was responding to a remark that choosing between the coalition and BN was no different than the dilemma made famous in Pepsi’s advertisement, which pitted the brand with an unknown closest competitor.

“I was shocked when told that the 14th general election is nothing more than about choosing between Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola. So is there a need to vote?

“Have we stooped that low in our thinking ability and in making comparisons?” asked Dr Mahathir.

He said the cola analogy was like a person refusing to choose between a Proton and a Rolls-Royce out of fear that both are motorised cars that could get involved in an accident.

“It’s better to walk, then. But he was crushed by a car, a Rolls Royce, when crossing the road. He doesn’t know it because he is already dead. The fact is that the Rolls Royce was a runaway car stolen by a thief.

“This is just a tale. But it’s the same story when it comes to choosing between Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola,” he wrote on his blog.

He questioned those who came up with such an analogy, saying it was a reflection of their low intellectual level.

“So don’t choose. We are safe. Are we really? You decide.”

Dr Mahathir’s comments come in the wake of a campaign to boycott the next polls, following opposition to PH’s decision to nominate him as prime minister.
