KOTA BELUD:
Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak today expressed appreciation to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for its Community Homes project initiative as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

He said under the initiative, the university’s experts and volunteers had collaborated in assisting the government to help the underprivileged and poor people to own homes.

He spoke at the handing over of a community home in Kampung Pantai Emas here today.

Kota Belud fisherman Rodzlee Adkil, 36, who earns RM400 per month, received the 600 sq feet house which has three bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and living room.

The house was built at a cost of RM20,000. It was constructed using the industrialised building system (IBS) in less than a month.

UMS vice-chancellor Prof D Kamaruddin D Mudin said besides the one in Kota Belud, three other units were built in Sipitang, Tawau and Sandakan. They will be officiated next month.

Rodzlee thanked UMS for the new house which he found very comfortable for himself, wife and six children.

“I am very happy to get this house. I have indeed dreamed of having my own home,” he added.

The selection of Rodzlee as the Community Homes recipient was made by the Kota Belud district office via the e-Kasih records.
