MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong claimed the discrepancy was found in the latest checks done by his team.
“I didn’t pick these findings from just anywhere but they were stated clearly in the Penang Buletin Mutiara.
“The March 4, 2013 newsletter stated Guan Eng himself said Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd and China Railway Construction Corporation Ltd had paid-up capital worth RM3.5 million and RM4 billion, respectively.
“But when we checked, CRCC Ltd is not listed as a shareholder on the undersea tunnel project contract,” Wee told a press conference today.
Based on these findings, Wee questioned the truth of Lim’s claims that the undersea tunnel project has strong technological and financial backing.
“How can he make such claims when the companies are not reflected as shareholders in the contract?
“I would like him to come clean on his claims and explain why these companies, inclusive of BUCG Sdn Bhd (a partner in the tunnel project consortium) are nowhere to be seen as shareholders of the SPV,” said Wee.
“Why tell lies like this to please people? Is this the DAP’s way of preparing for the coming general election?” he asked.
On a separate matter, Wee told the DAP to stop politicising education issues in Johor.
“They are trying to make enemies for me, making the Malays, Chinese and Indians hate me as their tactic to win voters’ support.
“I have been there (Ayer Hitam) long enough to know their (DAP) movements and what they are planning and plotting.
“They can say and do anything they want, my focus is on the people’s problems and to help come up with solutions.
“I have been doing that, and I will continue to do that, come what may,” said the three-term MP for Ayer Hitam.
Wee was referring to Lim’s recent allegation that as minister in the prime minister’s department, he had not fulfilled his responsibilities to aid schools in Johor although he was allocated RM5 million a year.
“The RM5 million in question is not specifically for Yong Peng. There are so many other issues I have to deal with, including 33 mosques and 90 Malay villages, drainage system repairs and also local working committees,” he said.
In the past five days, arguments between MCA and DAP leaders heated up over the apparent inadequate funding for a Chinese school in Yong Peng.
Ayer Hitam MCA division chairman Ling Tian Soon responded by saying that it was “irresponsible” for Lim to shoot from the hip when he did not know much about Chinese schools in Johor.
On Jan 13, Lim said he was “surprised” to be approached for donations from a senior staff member of a Chinese school in Yong Peng, which is within Wee’s constituency.
