PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has accused the government of being “cowardly” by resorting to tactics such as finding fault with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo and threatening PPBM with deregistration.

Referring to the countless problems the opposition has encountered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS), Mahathir said these were “unique” tactics used by the government to weaken PH’s support in the coming general election.

“They aren’t brave enough to fight back and so they use these dirty tactics prior to the general election to weaken PH’s support.

“When we asked, they don’t want to reply. And yet they are talking about it everywhere.

“We are not afraid of the government,” said Dr Mahathir during the “Harapan Baru: Policy Talks” discussion.

The PPBM chairman also dismissed allegations by the party’s Temerloh branch that the recent annual general meeting was not conducted according to the party’s constitution.

“If it is true that we did not abide by RoS’ terms, let the RoS be the one issuing us letters.

“Why is this guy trying to act as if he’s better than the RoS?” he said.

It was reported yesterday that the Temerloh PPBM branch had urged the RoS to investigate the party as it claimed the party’s election was conducted without adhering to its constitution.

Temerloh PPBM chief Amerus Che Onn alleged that PPBM did not hold meetings at the branch and division levels and had yet to appoint delegates from the Youth and Srikandi wings at division level.

Amerus had said they felt deceived by the party’s leadership.
