PETALING JAYA: PPBM’s Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman today shared a picture of him with singer Sheila Majid, who last month came under fire from Umno leaders over comments seen as critical of the government’s economic policies.
But the PPBM Youth chief said the picture was “non-political”.
“This was just a casual meeting at a New Year’s gathering,” he told FMT when contacted.
“With the jazz queen @missmajid. Such an honour!” Saddiq wrote on his Instagram page.
Sheila’s remarks on Twitter early last month drew strong reactions from Umno leaders, as the party prepared to gather for its annual assembly on Dec 5.
“Food is expensive, ringgit is weak, cost of living is high & jobs are scarce. Msians are becoming tired & angry for being squeezed over debts we did not create.
“Stop making excuses & looking for faults. Focus on the job of getting our country back on track! Disappointing!” the singer, best known for songs like “Sinaran” and “Antara Anyer Dan Jakarta”, wrote.
