After a man named Khor offered his vacant flat in another block for Looi Say Chye, 52, and his family to stay, businessman Khor Kian Hown, 38, came with a job offer for Looi, as a general worker at one of his mini markets.
Kian Hown, who lives in Bukit Mertajam, contacted Looi after reading about his plight in a newspaper.
He said that while he understood Looi’s condition would not permit him to carry heavy loads, the latter could still transport small packages, make deliveries and take orders, among others.
Looi suffered a stroke six years ago, and has limited movement in his right arm.
“If he is interested he can start work anytime. Anything that he can help with will be good,” Kian Hown said when met at Looi’s new home today.

Also present were Kebun Bunga assemblyman Cheah Kah Peng and Rifle Range village security and development committee (JKKK) chairman Loh Eng Kim.
Kian Hown also offered to pick Looi up at 4.30am tomorrow to personally take him to his mini market in Farlim.
The Farlim outlet will be the nearest for Looi. It currently has about 10 workers. If Looi decides to take the job, he will work the 4.30am to 1pm shift.
In addition, Kian Hown also offered to get Looi a motorcycle, to be registered under his name, and to pay half its cost with the rest to be deducted from his salary if Looi continued to work for him.
Looi said he would think about it, and that he was thankful for Kian Hown’s offer.
“I am grateful for all the help that has been rendered,” he said.
Looi, together with his Indonesian wife Umyati, 43, and children Ah Boy, 6, and Cindy, 8, were evicted from their rented unit for failing to pay three months’ rental of RM900.
They spent Christmas night in the narrow corridor of their flat, but a businessman, known only as Khor, 52, came forward to offer his vacant flat in the next block for the family to stay for free.
The 17th floor unit is identical in size and has minimal furnishing. It offers a commanding view of Penang Hill and is comparatively cleaner than their previous unit.
It was reported earlier that residents, who were previously unaware of Looi’s predicament, had visited them and wished them well, and also donated some money.
Those interested in donating to Looi’s family can do so by banking in to “JKKK Padang Tembak” at Maybank account number 5071 2514 8133 and emailing their details to [email protected].
