He said the leaders of the task force seeking a long-term solution for the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25 had allowed others to take over the protest and make abusive speeches.
These speeches had attacked Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali as well as other state leaders, he said, adding that some of the speakers were MIC members who wanted to politicise the issue.
In a statement today, he said the Selangor government would assist in resolving the issue, but that making abusive and insulting speeches would not help.
“A solution for the future of the Seafield Mariamman temple can only be found if all parties sit down and come to some agreement.
“Mr Chellappa and his group, Mr Nagaraju and his group, and members of the task force are all sincere Hindus. They should be able to find a solution in the best interest of followers of the religion.”
He was referring to temple committee president K Chellappa and M Nagaraju, who is said to be the leader of the group protesting against the temple’s relocation.
Sivarasa had on Monday urged all relevant parties and stakeholders to find an amicable solution to the issue.
In a joint statement issued with Klang MP Charles Santiago, he said the matter was being referred to Azmin who had given his commitment to seek a solution acceptable to all.
Speaking today, he said the current situation was that three groups were claiming the right to make decisions over the running of the temple.
“The matter is made more complicated by the fact that the temple is on private land owned by the developer of the area,” he added.
The issue arose after the temple, which is reportedly 146 years old, was asked to relocate to a location in Putra Heights some 2.7km away.
This was after the temple committee entered into a consent judgment with the landowner three years ago.
On June 6, Azmin said he had spoken to developer One City Development Sdn Bhd which had obtained a court order to possess the temple land, and persuaded it to put its eviction of the temple on hold.
