NILAI: The education ministry will hold a meeting with the family of an 11-year-old student who was slapped by a teacher at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Semarak, here, in April.

Its Deputy Minister Chong Sin Woon said the meeting was to settle the misunderstanding between the family and the teacher involved.

“We need to find a way to resolve this issue. Taking it to court will only impact the teaching profession,” he told the media after handing over school equipment to poor students, here, today.

Chong hopes the two parties could work together to ensure that schools were a safe place for learning.

On Tuesday, the Seremban Magistrate’s Court granted teacher Azizan Manap, 44, a discharge not amounting to acquittal after he was accused of injuring a student.
