Taking to Instagram, the popular rocker posted a photo of himself holding a product with the words “penipuan”, which is fraud in Bahasa Malaysia, stamped across.
“Every now and then, some individual will claim that I have endorsed their health products, simply because they took a picture of me holding it,” he told the daily.
Amy, whose full name is Suhaimi A Rahman, added that what was worse is the fact that such individuals did not inform him, nor ask his permission, before using the photo for their own promotion.
“They did not appoint me their brand ambassador or spokesman. Claiming I’ve endorsed their health product by merely showing that I had bought it, is downright fraud,” NST quoted him as saying.
He added that he also fears that the product could bring harm instead of the health benefits it claims.
According to Amy, this is not the first such case as he believes other local celebrities have been taken advantage of in the same way.
“Other artistes who have been promoted as ‘brand ambassadors’ without their knowledge nor permission should file a complaint with the relevant authorities,” he was quoted as saying by NST.
“We should avoid falling for scams,” he said, adding that no one should endorse products which may not have been approved by the health ministry.
Meanwhile, since Amy’s Instagram post, a few other singers have shared the same view on companies taking advantage of artistes, including Nurul Wahab and Nizam of Laksamana.
“If anyone asks me to hold a product and take a photo, I will say sorry, I can’t do this. It’s clearly fraud,” Nurul told NST.
Nizam agreed saying, “When we say ‘no’, they accuse us of being arrogant. I don’t care, artistes should stay clear of fraudsters.”
