Rela superintendent James Ee, who represented the three members, told reporters that it was not up to them or the agency to accept the apology as the court proceedings would continue nonetheless.
“What the Datuk Seri has done to the three is not any ordinary assault incident which we can take lightly. It is a serious offence because what he did was as good as assaulting a government personnel who was carrying out his or her duties.
“Even though he apologised and feels remorseful over his action, we should not just let it go, we should let the court decide,” Ee was quoted as saying by theSun daily.
Liow Soon Hee, 29, was charged last month over his alleged assault of the three Rela personnel outside a Chinese temple on Oct 27.
After paying bail, he was rearrested outside the courthouse by police over a 2014 drug-related offence. He was subsequently charged in two separate courts.
The first charge was for consuming two types of drugs, namely amphetamine and methamphetamine, on Oct 30 at Ampang police district headquarters.
He was also accused of testing positive for methamphetamine at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters on Feb 11, 2014.
Liow pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
On Dec 5, he apologised to the Rela personnel for his aggressive action against them.
He told theSun that he regretted his actions and wished to be part of society.
“I am willing to extend my apology to the victims affected by the incident,” he added.
