Padu chief executive officer Khadijah Abdullah said the Mike Nichols Project Management Award for Inspiration 2017 in London was awarded to Padu on Nov 20.
This proved that the unit is on the right track to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to it.
The unit was set up to support the Education Department’s implementation of PPPM.
Among the multinational companies which lost out to Padu were Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Lloyds Banking Group, BAE Systems and Fujitsu.
Khadijah said the success should be shared with all the staff of the education ministry, especially the teachers in 10,000 schools who had given their full commitment to making the education transformation agenda a success.
“This prestigious success was attained after Mike Nichols became excited and inspired by the ministry’s efforts to transform the education sector in a big way.
“The award was also specially given based on the ministry’s management of the national education sector, which is very complex.
“It encourages many other countries to learn what has been planned and implemented by the ministry,” she said at a press conference here yesterday.
Khadijah said the award was also given in recognition of PPPM’s vision and innovations which would transform education and have a positive long-term effect on society.
The blueprint is recognised by renowned world bodies like the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
She said among the countries which used PPPM as a reference for sustainable development in education were Afghanistan, Nigeria, Myanmar, Thailand and Bhutan.
Khadijah also said the second wave of the PPPM would focus on empowering the national education system from the pre-school to secondary school levels.
She said 20 main initiatives of the PPPM’s second wave would be continued to spur the education system, including boosting harmony in schools and emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
“Under the first wave, we achieved 86% of the target goals.”
