According to a report in The Star, apart from being barred from boarding her Malindo Air flight, the mother of one from Kuala Lumpur was also fined by the Indian authorities and her flight ticket was cancelled.
Devasuria said that she had not read the fine print, which stated that the visa had to be renewed after she had been in India for 45 days.
She had been eager to return to Malaysia because she was physically abused by her mother-in-law three times and her relationship with her husband had deteriorated.
Devasuria again finds herself in a predicament, because her husband, S Muralidas, had borrowed money from a moneylender to pay for flight tickets for her and their four-year-old son.
“He already has to pay interest for the money he borrowed, and he cannot borrow any more money.
I just don’t know what else to do to get back home.”
Devasuria and Muralidas have been married since 2009.
Muralidas, an auto rickshaw driver from India, had been living in Malaysia since 2001, but his work permit expired in 2009. After he and Devasuria married, he remained in Malaysia illegally because he was unable to renew his permit.
“I had tried to renew my permit, but nothing could be done, so I gave up, got fingerprinted, and came home with my wife and son,” Muralidas had said in a prior interview with The Star,
Muralidas may not return to Malaysia until 2022.
Devasuria now intends to contact the Ramanathapuram Superintendent of Police in hopes of obtaining a letter allowing her to leave India. Should she be allowed to return, she plans to live with her mother in Sentul and find a job to support herself and her son.
