Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir ordered Mohammad Nazrul Khairi Mohammad Badri, 31, who pleaded guilty, to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on Dec 2 and an additional one month’s jail if he defaulted on the fine,
The accused had stolen among others, onions, bottled water and chocolate valued at a total of RM285.78 at the AEON Hypermarket at Sunway Pyramid here at 4.40pm on Dec 2.
He was caught by staff of the hypermarket when he tried to leave without paying for the items, which were hidden in his sling bag.
In mitigation, he asked for a lenient sentence saying he had to steal because he had no money and had spent four days on remand.
