He said the ministry had no plans to build such a centre.
“The matter was never discussed in the ministry or at any forum, and the ministry has no plans to build such a centre,” he said in a written reply to Khalid Samad (Amanah-Shah Alam) in the Dewan Rakyat here today.
Khalid had asked for the government’s stand on the offer from China to build the centre, which would be equipped with radar and rockets.
In August, Singapore’s Straits Times ran a report quoting a source about China offering a 12-unit AR3 multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) to Malaysia which would be set up in Johor.
The report also suggested that Prime Minister Najib Razak and Chinese representative Wang Yong had touched on the radar and rockets system after the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) groundbreaking ceremony.
Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub was reported to have said that the offer would drag Malaysia into worldwide conflicts.
