In a series of tweets, Bung remained defiant despite a denial issued by the low-cost carrier’s CEO today.
“AirAsia X cannot deny the facts, the tickets sold especially during Hari Raya increases, RM1,780 is close to RM2,000.
“If you do not believe, just wait for when schooling resumes and when it is Chinese New Year, just watch the movement of AirAsia ticket prices. I want Aireen Omar to look at their prices herself,” he tweeted.
Bung was responding to Aireen’s statement today in which she stated that his example of a customer being charged RM2,000 for a one-way flight from Sandakan to Kuala Lumpur was “completely untrue”.
She said that the average one-way fare for AirAsia flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sandakan was RM213 and during peak season, their highest fare was about RM1,180, which was still the lowest in the market.
Meanwhile, Bung also accused budget airline, Malindo Airlines, of high ticket prices.
He tweeted: “The clever business strategy game played by AirAsia is also shared by Malindo Airlines, remember that the people now are getting smarter.”
On Tuesday, Bung lashed out at AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines, accusing them of having unsatisfactory and inadequate services to destinations in Sabah.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, he claimed AirAsia rejected passengers even if they were only 10 minutes late and asked them to buy new tickets.
Bung also alleged AirAsia was focusing too much on charging “hidden costs” instead of operating as a low-cost carrier, which Aireen denied saying “there were no hidden costs”.
