
It was responding to reports that an artwork themed “Under Construction” had been removed on grounds that it had elements of communism.
But NVAG director Mohamed Najib Ahmad Dawa dismissed the claim, saying it was a “cheap publicity stunt”.
“The installation, titled ‘Under Construction’ can still be viewed,” Najib told reporters after an event at the gallery here.
A check by FMT showed that the artwork was still displayed on the second floor but was covered with a black canvas.
Another official from the gallery also rubbished reports of police seizing the artwork last night.
News portal The Malaysian Insight had reported that a group of Malaysian and Indonesian artists withdrew from the exhibition following the confiscation.
The KL Biennale 2017 was officiated by Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz today.
