Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said the suspect, in his 40s, was picked up in Alor Setar, Kedah, by a team from the Kuala Kedah police station at about 5pm.
The self-employed father of two was remanded for four days to facilitate investigations.
The 48-year-old victim claimed she had befriended the man on Facebook. The suspect subsequently went to meet her at a bus terminal in Johor and they later stayed together at a hotel in Nusa Dua Bestari, Skudai.
At a press conference here today, Noor Hashim said the woman also claimed she was in a semi-conscious state and had agreed to the wishes of the suspect, including going on a trip to Singapore before returning to a bus terminal to send him back to Kedah.
“Subsequently, the suspect contacted the woman and demanded RM5,000. He also threatened to inform her husband of their meeting and circulate semi-nude pictures of her,” he said, adding that the man also made photocopies of the woman’s MyKad and marriage certificate.
