She said she had given the same advice and a rebuke to Jamal during the hearing of her lawsuit in the High Court.
“When he made that wild accusation against me, many lawyers had contacted me offering to take up the case because they said I was sure to win.
“But it was a matter of principle to me, not of winning. I advised and admonished Jamal in court not to behave recklessly and speak nonsense, which was a sin.
“I want this to be a lesson to him not to throw his weight around,” she told a news conference at Hotel De Palma.
The case arose when Jamal, who is Sungai Besar Umno division chief, and his supporters followed Zuraida and her supporters to the Ampang Point shopping mall on Nov 13, where they scuffled.
Jamal was left with a bloody nose and he had told reporters that he was assaulted by Zuraida’s supporters.
Zuraida sued him for defamation but, following mediation, Jamal retracted his remark.
The retraction was read out at the Kuala Lumpur High Court before Justice S Nantha Balan.
Jamal said in the statement that he had used the words in anger against Zuraida and regretted it.
Jamal’s lawyer, Mohammed Nasser, said Jamal only retracted his accusation against Zuraida but did not make any apology.
Zuraida hoped Jamal would change his behaviour after the experience.
“If he repeats his action, he will face the consequences. We won’t let someone like this mess up the community,” she added.
