There are likely to be four to five “episodes” of rain in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, eastern Johor and western Sarawak.
Meteorological Department director-general Alui Bahari said today the monsoon rain could trigger floods in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
“Early warning of heavy rain during the northeast monsoon period will be issued one to three days ahead.
“Warning on thunderstorms will be issued if there are signs of rising intensity.”
He said at the moment, the country was still experiencing the inter-monsoon transition, which was expected to last until mid-November (next week).
“During this phase, there will be heavy rain and thunderstorms in the short term.
“There will be more frequent strong winds in the afternoon and early evening in many areas in states on the west coast, the interior of the peninsula, Sabah’s west coast and western and central Sarawak,” he said.
Alui advised the public to take heed of the bad weather warnings issued by the department and to comply with safety guidelines.
They should refer to the department website or the myCuaca smartphone application to obtain the latest information which is updated on a daily basis, he added.
Alui also said the people should not circulate unconfirmed messages regarding the weather.
