KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 17 children have been arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), since it was gazetted and enforced.

As for the Prevention of Crime Act 1959, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that 142 children were arrested.

“Meanwhile, no child has been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015,” he said in a written reply to Charles Santiago (DAP-Klang).

Santiago had asked for statistics on the number of children currently detained under the three laws.

He had also asked Zahid (BN-Bagan Datuk) to state the reason why 16-year-old Ang Kian Kok had been arrested under Poca.

To this, Zahid said since the matter was still being investigated by police, the ministry would not divulge details so as not to hamper current investigations.

Ang was one of two teenagers arrested with G Balamurugan, who was later found dead at the North Klang district police headquarters, in February this year.
