
The Malaysian Meteorological Department said in a statement that similar conditions were also expected in the districts of Kerian, Larut, Matang Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar in Perak, as well as Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Hulu Terengganu in Terengganu.
It also said the districts of Kinta, Kampar, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Muallim and Batang Padang in Perak were expected to experience thunderstorms, torrential rain as well as strong winds until late today.
Similar conditions are also expected in Cameron Highlands, Lipis and Raub in Pahang.
Meanwhile, 3,365 flood victims were still seeking shelter at relief centres in Penang at 5pm.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department media relations officer Mohd Azman Hussin said Seberang Perai Tengah area recorded the highest number of victims with 1,974 people seeking shelter at 25 relief centres in the district.
“There are 829 flood victims in Seberang Perai Utara, 25 at Seberang Perai Selatan, 290 at Southwest district and 247 at Northeast district. Currently, 12 flood relief centres are still operating in the four districts and the situation is under control,” he added
In IPOH, 153 people have been evacuated due to the floods in Perak as at 9.30pm, an increase from 103 people at noon today.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s flood portal, 103 of the evacuees, from 21 families, are from Kampung Simpang Tiga and Kampung Serapoh in Perak Tengah and they have been given shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang Tiga.
In the Hulu Perak district, 50 people from 20 families are at the Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sumpitan.
It is also learnt that a landslide occurred along Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Gerik near the Kampung Sumpitan bridge about 3pm today, but there was no report of casualties.
