3 RELA members assaulted by ‘Datuk Seri’

Datuk Seri hits and kicks the three People’s Volunteer Corps members after one of them asks him to re-park his vehicle as it was obstructing traffic.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Three members of the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) were injured after they were allegedly assaulted by a man with a “Datuk Seri” title at a temple in Jalan Ampang here yesterday.

The incident occurred about 6.30am, resulting in Melvin Cheong Mun Khai, 19; Lee Weng Poh, 27; and Leong Jiun Jie, 21 suffering injuries to the head, eye and abdomen.

Cheong claimed it started when he asked the “Datuk Seri” to re-park his Toyota Vellfire as the vehicle was obstructing traffic. However, the man refused to.

“He became angry and hit a table, as well as threatened us.

“My friends, Lee and Leong, came to help to pacify the situation, but the man continued to hit and kick us,” he told a media conference, attended by MCA Public Complaints and Service Bureau head Michael Chong here today.

He said the incident was recorded by a closed-circuit television camera in the vicinity, and a report was lodged at the Ampang police station later.

Meanwhile, Ampang Jaya deputy police chief Supt Mohd Zaid Hassan confirmed the incident, saying the case would be investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
