SHAH ALAM:
A former employee of the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged corruption and abuse of power in the awarding of a project to supply souvenirs to the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office in 2016.

According to a MACC source, the 38-year-old suspect, a former administrative assistant in the office, was detained around 12.30pm Wednesday.

The 59-year-old owner of a souvenir company and his 52-year-old wife were also arrested at 3.30pm.

The source said the employee was suspected of receiving a RM16,566 bribe from the owner of the souvenir company last year, in return for recommending the company as a souvenir supplier to the office.

“The wife of the souvenir company owner was arrested for abetting both the suspects,” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Wan Ramli Wan Abdullah confirmed the arrest and said all three suspects would be produced in the magistrate’s court here, tomorrow, for a remand order.
