In recent interviews, they said only certain people had been given permits and they demanded an explanation for the double standard.

Speaking to FMT, Cameron Highlands PSM secretary B Suresh said the decision to have a sit-in was made after a meeting between his party and several of the farmers last Monday. He said a letter would be sent to the MB’s office on Nov 11 to inform him about the planned protest.
Before the sit-in, PSM and the farmers will have a roadshow around Cameron Highlands to gather support for their cause.
“We have decided to take four days to cover the whole of Cameron Highlands and distribute pamphlets between late October and early November,” Suresh said.

The planned sit-in will be the second such demonstration outside the MB’s office since 2012, when 26 adults and five children were arrested. The adults included four PSM members.
Suresh claimed that the last sit-in was a success because the MB finally decided to grant the farmers an appointment they had been seeking since 2008. He added that the state government finally granted land ownership to some of the farmers,
According to him, eight farmers have agreed to participate in next month’s roadshow and sit-in. They include three who have already been given land rights.
“The final details will be ironed out in another meeting on Oct 25, where we will decide the exact dates for the roadshow, among other things,” he said.
Among those planning to join the protest is 60-year-old K Muniamah, who was granted the rights to her late husband’s farm last June. According to Suresh, she wants to show solidarity with farmers who haven’t been as lucky as she.
Muniamah’s husband, who died in 2015, was among the farmers who actively fought for the land rights along with PSM.
The Blue Valley farmers have been working on the land since the 1970s, thinking it was estate land. However, in 1976, the land office told them the land belonged to the state and they had to apply for the right to occupy it.
