MELAKA: The Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency will remain an MIC seat, says its party president Dr S Subramaniam.

He said claims by People’s Progressive Party (MyPPP) president M Kayveas that Cameron Highlands would be returned to MyPPP was not true.

“The Prime Minister (Najib Razak) himself has informed me that the seat belongs to MIC and will not be changed to other parties despite him (Kayveas) claiming the seat belongs to them,” he told reporters after hosting a Deepavali Open House at his residence in Lorong Ujong Pasir here today.

Subramaniam, who is also health minister, said the prime minister had remained steadfast with regards to the Cameron Highlands seat belonging to MIC and this was also agreed upon by other Barisan Nasional component parties.

He said MyPPP’s claims that the parliamentary seat belonged to MyPPP based on historical factors were inaccurate as “history is changing”.

He was asked to comment on the claims made by Kayveas that Cameron Highlands would be handed over to MyPPP based on the promise made by former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2000.
