Melaka Police chief Abdul Jalil Hassan said that he was informed by the DCA that they did not receive any application to fly the GT500 microlight aircraft.
“Based on preliminary information obtained from the DCA, the pilot has a flying licence but the flying activity did not get permission of the DCA which did not get any information about the activity.
“For security purposes, the DCA must be informed and give permission for flying activity whether it involves private aircraft or otherwise, ” he told reporters after the National Sports Day programme of the Melaka police contingent headquarters, here today.
Jalil said that the DCA was handling the investigation and that the cause of the crash was still unknown.
The aircraft crashed about 200 metres from the runway of Sungai Rambai Aerodrome, Jasin, Melaka, at about 10.30am yesterday.
The crash killed the pilot, Yee Yoon Fah, 54, while Mohd Shahrul Shafiri, 35, a General Operations Force member, was injured and rushed to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, Muar, for treatment.
