PETALING JAYA: Former Election Commission chairman Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman today said he was putting together a team to stop any attempts at cheating at the next general election.

Addressing participants of Pakatan Harapan’s “anti-kleptocracy” rally here, Rashid, who is now part of PPBM, said there were many ways to cheat at the polls.

“But as long as I’m in the frontline, I won’t allow this to happen,” he told the “Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy” gathering at Padang Timur tonight.

Rashid, who is also PPBM vice-president, said only the top brass of the civil service supported Barisan Nasional (BN).

The rally today focused on a United States anti-kleptocracy investigation into the alleged embezzlement of billions of dollars involving 1MDB, as well as the RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal accounts.

Najib has denied allegations the money was from 1MDB-linked entities, and maintained it was a donation from the Saudi royal family to help the BN general election campaign of 2013.
