PETALING JAYA:
The creature that crawled out from the toilet of a house in Kedah has been identified as an elephant trunk snake, NST Online reported.

It said Kedah Perhilitan director Inche Ali @ Muhammad Ali Che Aman had confirmed the identity of the snake which resembles a giant leech.

He said the snake was found in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Many of those who had seen a viral video of the incident had wondered how a snake so huge could have crawled through the pipe and emerged from the toilet bowl.

The non-venomous snake, dark in colour with a yellow belly, weighed almost 20kg.

It was caught and later released in an irrigation canal.

The video was uploaded by the family on Facebook and the story was picked up by British paper, The Daily Mail.

The incident happened at Kampung Telaga Jambu, Megat Dewa in Kodiang last Friday.

Lutfi Asraf Mat Zuki, 28, was about to enter the bathroom at about 8pm when he noticed something moving inside the toilet bowl.

He alerted his mother, Che Putih Hassan, 49.

Lutfi told NST Online that the creature then slithered out from the toilet into the bathroom.

Lutfi, his brother, Zularif, 23, and father Mat Zuki Yaakob, 56, trapped the two-metre-long snake in a gunny sack.

Mat Zuki said the snake could have entered through a water discharge pipe at the sewerage tank behind their house.

He said locals called it “ular karung guni” or “ular guni buruk”.

Mat Zuki said this was the second time a snake had entered their house. A python had entered two years ago.

The family is still traumatised by the incident and now takes extra precautions when using the toilet.
