In a statement, Yeoh said Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan, the state assemblyman for Batang Kali, retracted the summons at the Shah Alam High Court today.
She said he agreed to pay RM3,000 in costs.
She said the move showed that the speaker and the state assembly could not be subjected to any civil or criminal proceedings in a court of law.
It also pointed to the fact that the validity of proceedings in the assembly or by its committees could not be questioned in court, she added.
“The speaker’s decisions on interpretations pertaining to any standing orders are final and the speaker has wide powers in all affairs related to the Selangor state assembly and the assembly’s select committees,” Yeoh said.
On April 3, Mat Nadzari, who is also Selangor Umno deputy chairman, was cited by the assembly for making remarks on Nov 1 last year that the Selangor government did not give due recognition to the institution of the monarchy.
Deputy Speaker Mohd Shafie Ngah read out a reprimand after the assembly’s rights and privileges committee met and found him guilty of the offence.
Mat Nadzari brought the matter to court on March 6.
Yeoh, the Selangor state assembly and the secretariat were represented by their lawyers, Gobind Singh Deo and Sangeet Kaur Deo.
