The team is focusing on the Semporna water plant and Pulau Gaya underwater pipe project at present, NST Online reported.

The team is inspecting such projects, executed under the rural and regional development ministry, to see whether they have been completed and are still in use.

The RM45 million water plant in Semporna was demolished and rebuilt but could not function as the river was too shallow.

Berita Harian had earlier reported 350 projects under the ministry were being scrutinised by the MACC over allegations of embezzlement of RM1.5 billion in federal funds.

These projects were carried out between 2010 and 2016 in Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, Kota Belud, Ranau, Beaufort, Keningau, Lahad Datu, Tawau and Sandakan districts.

The RM1.5 billion was out of RM7.5 billion allocated for projects in Sabah, involving water, electricity and road infrastructure development projects.

The portal said at the end of last year, Mayor Yeo Boon Hai revealed that 10,000 people from four villages on Pulau Gaya had yet to receive clean water supply although the reservoir tanks were provided.

Earlier this week, the MACC remanded three men, including Parti Warisan Sabah vice-president Peter Anthony, for investigation over alleged corrupt practices in the implementation of projects.
