SHAH ALAM: A witness, working at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) customer service said Kim Jong Nam claimed he was “attacked” by two women from behind at the airport.

Juliana Idris, who works as the airport’s customer care ambassador, told a murder trial at the High Court here that Jong Nam’s hands were trembling when he spoke to her on Feb 13.

“He stated he was attacked by two women on his face and eyes,” the second witness told the court during the first day of trial today.

Indonesian Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong are charged with murdering Jong Nam on Feb 13 at klia2.

Jong Nam, who was the eldest son of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, arrived in Malaysia on Feb 6 and was scheduled to board a 9am flight to Macau on Feb 13.

Jong Nam died on the way to Putrajaya Hospital from klia2, sparking a diplomatic row between Putrajaya and Pyongyang.

Several North Korean men, who were believed to have met the two women earlier, were reported earlier as fleeing the country the same day Jong Nam was killed.

The first witness at the trial was police officer Mohd Zulkarnian Sanudin. He told the court he did not know Jong Nam was related to Kim Jong Un, the current North Korean leader.

He said he was told to bring Jong Nam to seek treatment at the airport’s clinic after he complained of being “attacked”.

“He said his eyes were blurry and he could not see.

“And he asked me to slow down because of his blurry vision,” he said.

When met after the proceedings, Siti’s lawyer Gooi Soon Seng told reporters that no requests were made by lawyers or prosecutors to conduct a site visit to the airport.

Earlier, Gooi and lawyers for Doan, namely Hisyam Teh, Naran Singh and Salim Bashir, requested for the charge against the women to be amended.

However, trial judge Justice Azmi Ariffin turned down their bid to add four more names of individuals, who are still at large, to the murder charge.

The prosecution has said it will prove beyond reasonable doubt that Siti and Doan had intended to murder Jong Nam with their “prank” exercise, allegedly supervised by the four individuals.

The trial continues tomorrow.
