Wisma Putra confirms 10 Malaysians affected by NZ blaze

Malaysian High Commission in Wellington says it is monitoring the condition of the victims and will render consular assistance accordingly.

The foreign affairs ministry has confirmed that 10 Malaysians were affected by a blaze at Clifton in Christchurch, New Zealand on Sunday.

Wisma Putra, in a statement here today, said two of the victims were sent to the Christchurch General Hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

It added the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington was monitoring the condition of the victims and would render consular assistance accordingly.

On Sunday, a blaze gutted a luxury Christchurch hilltop Airbnb house rented by a group of Malaysian tourists, who were unsuccessful in putting out the 8.30pm fire.

It was reported the fire destroyed the three-storey wooden house on Clifton Terrace in the seaside suburb of Sumner.

Six people were taken to the hospital, with four having sustained moderate injuries and the rest, minor injuries.
