Headmaster claims trial to corruption charge

He is alleged to have allowed his wife's company to provide food under the Supplementary Food Programme to the school.

KUCHING: A school headmaster was today charged with corruption for instructing a catering company to appoint Ismas Catering, a company which belongs to his wife, to provide food under the Supplementary Food Programme to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Gita No 2 for a sum of RM86,190.

According to the charge sheet, on July 1 last year, Ismail Idris, 57, of SK Tan Sri Dr Sulaiman Daud (formerly known as SK Gita No 2), here, used his office for gratification, when he instructed Mazuri Katering to appoint Ismas Catering to carry out the task as stated in the contract.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 17 (b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable under Section 24 of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine not less than five times the value of the gratification.

Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong set Nov 11-13 for hearing, and RM10,000 as bail in one surety.

MACC prosecuting officer Ikhwan Mohd Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution, while Ismail was represented by lawyer Khairul Azmi.
