
At 22.7%, Selangor’s contribution put it ahead of Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, Penang and Sabah, which together with Selangor accounted for 70.6% of the national economy in 2016, The Edge reported.
In terms of gross domestic product (GDP) growth, Labuan came out tops with 7.2%, far ahead of the national growth rate of 4.2%.
Kuala Lumpur came in second with 5.9%, followed by Johor (5.7%).
Although all states saw an increase in GDP per capita from 2015, only Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Penang, Selangor, Sarawak and Melaka recorded a higher GDP per capita than the national average of RM38,887.
According to the report, Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest GDP per capita of RM101,420 while Kelantan posted the lowest of RM12,812.
