KUALA LUMPUR: The Aquaria KLCC created a new record when it received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the longest Jalur Gemilang at 60 metres in the aquarium.

The Jalur Gemilang was installed in conjunction with the National Day 2017 celebration and the 12th anniversary of the Aquaria KLCC today.

Aquawalk Sdn Bhd executive director Simon Foong said the public could see the Jalur Gemilang, measuring 60 metres in length by 83 centimetres, adorning the walls of the aquarium until Sunday.

“The installation of the Jalur Gemilang is aimed at raising the patriotic spirit among visitors, besides imbuing a love of the country that could be a tourist pull.

“We conducted a study before putting up the Jalur Gemilang to ensure the material and dyes used in the aquarium did not contain toxic substances that could harm aquarium life.

“So we have chosen special nylon as the material to make the flag,” he told reporters after receiving a certificate from MBOR founder Danny Ooi at a ceremony in Aquaria KLCC.

Foong said it took 10 people, including four divers, three hours to install the Jalur Gemilang.
