PETALING JAYA: An aide to Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has been called in for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the anti-graft agency’s investigations into Universiti Selangor (Unisel).

Yin Shao Loong, who is Azmin’s strategic communications director, revealed this in a tweet this morning.

“Heading to Putrajaya. MACC summoned me under Section 30(1)(a) related to their Unisel investigation after a report filed by Kelana Jaya Umno Youth,” he said, referring to the particular enactment under the MACC Act 2009.

This message followed another tweet he sent last night which read: “MACC has called me in for investigation tomorrow at 10am at their Putrajaya HQ related to the Unisel case though I’m just the MB’s media officer.”

On Aug 22, the MACC had seized documents after raids were carried out at the Unisel offices in Shah Alam and Bestari Jaya, the private company’s office at Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, and Bestari Jaya, and also the Menteri Besar Inc (MBI) office at the state administrative building in Shah Alam.

The raid came about a month after MBI threatened legal action against anyone accusing it of corruption related to an alleged payment made to Jana Niaga.

Jana Niaga was said to have carried out maintenance works at the Unisel campus in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor.

Azmin, who is PKR deputy president, later said that MBI will cooperate with the MACC on all matters related to the investigation, but criticised the “harassment and intimidation” against MBI and Unisel, saying it was due to jealousy of what the Selangor state government has managed to achieve.
