These were the words of wisdom shared by Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who called on the coalition of four parties to place its responsibility to save the country from an allegedly “kleptocratic” government above all others.
“To do this, we have to sacrifice and compromise with our coalition partners.
“Our party alone won’t be able to defeat the present government which consists of 13 parties.
“We (PH) only have four parties, so we have to work with one another.
“This means we have to be willing to sacrifice what we assume are our rights, so the others can get what are rightfully theirs.
“We must sacrifice, so we can distribute our power and rights in a fair and just manner.”
Mahathir was speaking to a 600-strong crowd present at PPBM’s first-ever fundraising dinner in Gombak here this evening.
It was not clear if Mahathir’s remarks were targeted at his party alone or to PH in general.
However, it came just a day after PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali declared that his party’s negotiations with PAS had nothing to do with PH.
Azmin, who is also the Selangor menteri besar, has been a strong proponent of working with PAS, even when others in the opposition coalition had given up on such a possibility.
Mahathir too had supported the move but gave up after the coalition’s efforts were repeatedly rejected by the Islamist party.
