
The data released by ISC Research showed that there are 176 international schools in Malaysia as of May, just 16 shy of Indonesia which came in first with 192 schools.
Thailand meanwhile has 181 international schools.
This was followed by Vietnam (116), Cambodia (115), Singapore (115), the Philippines (62), Myanmar (50), Laos (9) and Brunei (8).
In total, there are 1,027 international schools in Southeast Asia, 61 of which were established between January 2016 and January 2017 alone.
In terms of student enrolment, Malaysia came in first with 74,700 students, beating Singapore and Thailand which had 64,400 students respectively.
Indonesia came in fourth with 58,300 students, followed by Vietnam (52,600), Cambodia (26,800), the Philippines (24,500), Myanmar (14,300), Brunei (6,300) and Laos (3,300).
